Biomechanical Assessments get to the root cause of your pain and discomfort

Common Foot Problems

There are many reasons you could be experiencing foot, ankle, knee, hip or lower back pain. Including but not limited to:

  • Your genetics play a key role in how your body is built—and that structure directly affects how you move. Inherited traits like flat feet, high arches, leg length differences, joint hypermobility, or even muscle tightness can all influence your posture, gait, and overall biomechanics.
  • Standing and walking on hard surfaces without proper shoes
  • Poor footwear – Lack of support can alter alignment and strain joints.
  • Muscle imbalances – Weak or tight muscles affect stability and movement.
  • Injury or surgery – Past trauma can lead to compensations and poor gait.
  • Postural habits – Prolonged sitting or repetitive movements can reshape how your body moves.
  • Growth and development – Rapid changes in children can affect coordination and balance.
  • Pregnancy or weight gain – Added load can change foot posture and joint stress.
  • Overuse or high-impact activity – Repetitive strain often leads to breakdown over time.
  • Age-related changes – Degeneration and reduced mobility affect biomechanics.

How Can We Help?

Dr Abbie and his team are here to help you get to the root cause of your pain and discomfort. Understanding the cause is the first step. Our assessments identify what’s behind your movement issues—so we can treat the root, not just the symptoms.

Many common issues in the feet, knees, hips, and back stem from the way your body moves and absorbs stress during everyday activities like walking, running, or standing. When there’s poor alignment or muscle imbalance, these movement patterns become inefficient, leading to pain, fatigue, or injury over time.

Our clinic focuses on assessing and correcting these underlying biomechanical issues. Using a 7-step method, we evaluate posture, joint movement, muscle function, and walking patterns to identify the true source of discomfort. From there, we create a tailored treatment plan that may include custom orthotics, dry needling and injection therapy, shockwave therapy targeted exercises, and advice on footwear or activity modification.
By addressing the root cause—not just the symptoms—we help you move more naturally, reduce pain, and improve long-term performance and mobility, whether you're a growing child, active adult, or athlete.

What Happens in an Assessment?

At Custom Foot we use an assessment method that helps us figure out exactly what’s causing your pain or mobility issues—not just where it hurts, but why it’s happening.

We begin by understanding your health history, lifestyle, and any previous injuries to identify potential contributing factors.

Next, we assess your posture, alignment, and joint movement—particularly in your ankles, knees, and hips—to detect any restrictions or imbalances.

We evaluate muscle strength and flexibility, then observe how you walk or run through a detailed gait analysis, sometimes using video or pressure mapping.

Finally, we bring all findings together to diagnose the root cause and create a personalised treatment plan, which may include custom orthotics, exercises, or manual therapy.

Our goal is simple: to understand how your body moves and treat the underlying cause—not just the symptoms—for long-term results.
